Scots Language - discussion Join us for this light, entertaining introduction to Scots language with Dr Fred Freeman. With a brief glimpse of its history; the rich mix of languages that constitute the Scottish tradition (Latin, Welsh, Norn, Gaelic, English, Scots), the main tribes that brought Scots language to Scotland (Angles, Vikings, Flemings, Dutch & French) and the linguistic tradition Burns inherited. Dr Freeman will also look at what, surprisingly, has survived in our present day speech – the vocabulary and idioms of Scots. A chance for the audience to consider the words and phrases they retain. Dr Freeman is currently Fellow in English at the University of Edinburgh and is a graduate of Aberdeen and Edinburgh universities (Ph.D., Edinburgh). He has taught Scottish Literature at The School of Scottish Studies and in the English Department of Edinburgh University.
