Michael Klevenhaus, Maureen MacLeod and Peter Mackay. Imprint and the Gaelic Books Council team up to launch Saorsa – a fine collection of 13 short stories written in Gaelic. Covering a range of genres from science fiction to romance and history the stories explore the grey area where rules begin and end – and how far we can go without breaking them! Our guest readers will include Michael Klevenhaus, who is the first German to present a program in Gaelic in the BBC Alba series Eòrpa. Michael has been teaching and singing in Gaelic since 2002 and helped staged the Highland opera MacTalla nan Eun in Düsseldorf in 2007. Peter Mackay, originally from the Isle of Lewis, will also participate in the event. Peter’s study of Sorley MacLean was published in 2010 and he is the co-editor of Modern Irish and Scottish Poetry. We also welcome Maureen MacLeod, originally from Ness on the Isle of Lewis, who now works for the BBC in Glasgow. Maureen is currently working on a travel memoir in Gaelic and lists hip-hop as one of her influences! An interesting evening lies ahead – with a fine selection of Gaelic books for sale provided by the Gaelic Books Council bookshop.
